When I was very young I could never sit still long enough to put in the effort to read a book. The first book I ever read from beginning to end was a cheesy little Mandy mystery book that somehow captivated me. Reading that book and finding for the first time a character somewhat like my 8 or 9 year old self, I realized for the first time that reading could not only be used as a learning experience but could also make you feel seen and known. Later in life reading became impactful to me in a new way as I discovered that reading can not only help you understand yourself but through seeing other peoples experience of the world you will inevitably expand and change who you are and how you look at others. Now I enjoy reading and critiquing any book I may come across. From Scifi to Lobster psychology my bookclub helps keep me on my toes! I judge books harshly but I also try my best to keep in mind that a book can be fantastic and not be for me.
